How good is the new Pennzoil Ultra Platinum motor oil?
I will need an oil change in a few months or so. I understand how to do it and the tools required, but after being a loyal Mobil 1 user for 5 years, I was wondering how well the new Pennzoil Ultra Platinum stands up to the competition in full synthetics (especially being made from natural gas). Mobil 1 has been doing a superb job in keeping my car's engine running like a champ, but how does it compare to the Pennzoil in this application. I understand that Ultra Platinum has only been around since the beginning of this year, so experience may be limited with it. But for those of you who have had at least some experience with the Ultra Platinum - how would you rate it in terms of lubrication, protection, performance, and overall quality? Any differences in RPM's, driving quality, gas mileage, and the like? Does it really live up to its claims or is it all just their marketing and hype that make it 'look' good? Thanks in advance!
P.S. The car I may be testing this new motor oil on would be a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor P71. And Please don't be biased or turn this into an Amsoil topic. My only concern is Mobil 1 vs. Ultra Platinum.
The problem with trying to decide how good one motor oil is compared to another in a single car used for street driving is that you're definitely not pushing the engine hard enough, often enough for it to make a difference which "premium" synthetic oil you use. They'll all comfortably exceed your needs in a typical street driven application.
Standards that even the cheapest conventional motor oils must meet today are much, much more stringent than even 10 years ago so odds are ANY modern oil you run that's the proper viscosity range and that is changed at reasonable intervals will lubricate and protect the moving parts in your engine suitably for longer than it takes for other major parts to wear out and eventually be what sends the vehicle to the crusher.
It's definitely not going to hurt your engine to try Pennzoil Ultra Premium next oil change. My guess is you won't notice any objective difference in how it runs, its fuel economy, power output, wear, etc., but even if you do notice some difference, just change back if you prefer the Mobil 1 for whatever reason.
I wouldn't pour Pennzoil in a bucket, Might ruin a good bucket.
Who gives a hoot what you put in it. You could put dollar General oil in your car and it would run the same. The oil only cools and lubricates parts. That's it.
- Tried to recharge AC in ford E-350 gulfstream ultra 1992. R.V. Driving to Arizona in 2 days I bought a can of R-134a and it had a hose-a pressure dial and connection on it for the low pressure port. problem is the connector on the hose is to small for the port. it is a quick disconnect and not like a tire with a valve stem in it-i guess it is the adapter but it is to big for the connection on the hose… Are there different sizes? do i have the right Freon? Do i need an adapter for the fitting on the A.C. Line. I'm confused. I'm going to Arizona in 2 days so i need A.C.
- Pennzoil High Mileage vs Castrol GTX High Mileage? My local auto store has 5 quarts of Pennzoil High Mileage for 16.99, but 5 quarts of Castrol GTX High Mileage on sale for 9.99$. Which one is better, or does it not even matter and I should just get the cheaper one? It's going in a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 155*** miles on it.
- How many miles is Pennzoil High Mileage good for? I've had the 5w/20 in my car for the last 6000 miles. Is it time to replace it? It's a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 155*** miles on it.
- Dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi or 2015 ford f150 platinum? I need a truck to drive to school with, but I don't know which truck to drive. I need a truck that can drive good on the road, can go off-road if I need to, can go fast, looks nice, and sounds great. And yes, I have the money to put a lot of upgrades on either one of these trucks.
