Have a 1967 Ford 5000, would it hurt to use 10w-30 Engine oil as power steering fluid?

Added (1). I did Not nor contemplate actually using it, if anything i was gonna search for a few quarts of Valvoline 813 but i could only find the 5 gallon buckets. But i think i'm just gonna try the type F ATF Fluid.

Added (2). What about UTF i seen something on that where it worked fine?

Added (3). Would this work? https://www.walmart.com/...34&veh=sem I could just pick this up now.

NO. Update: Use the correct power steering fluid.

There's many websites on google that will show that oil can be used, but it's not preferable

Yes. Power steering and auto transmission fluid is more like a hydraulic fluid. By design, ford must have anti foam addiives labeled type F
The auto transmission Ford type F would be the same as the power steering fluid.
Odd, but for emergency use Crisco cooking oil can be used. Means having the system flushed before using proper fluids though.

Why would you want to?

When power steering fluid cost just a few dollars much the same as engine oil why would you want to risk a thousand dollar component by using the WRONG oil?

I use ATF in mine. Engine oil would not be a very good choice.

Close the hood and stay away from motors!
That's the dumbest question of the day!

134D Hydraulic-Transmission fluid

No. Motor oil is designed for motors and power steering fluid is for hydraulics.

You can use automatic transmission fluid (ATF) there. That's what they used in the 1960s. There was no such thing as power steering fluid then.

In 1967 it was called Type F, ATF.

ATF is a mineral oil hydraulic fluid with various additives.

Do NOT use engine oil!

  • What size tires would a 1967 ford f100 have? I've got the truck and ready to work on it only problem is that its tires have gone bad so I can't drag it to a workshop to even start working on it. The truck is a Ford F-100 3/8 ton
  • 2001 Ford Taurus power steering fluid leak? My husband bought a new power steering pump and installed it last week, but when he added the power steering fluid it leaked out almost immediately. Any idea of what would cause this?
  • What fuel octane should I use for 1967 ford mustang? I'm wondering what octane I should use for my 1967 ford mustang. I've heard that the octane difference does nothing but I just want to know what you think because I really care about my car and don't care about the price difference.
