Why won't my 2016 Ford Fusion charge my phone in the 12V port when the car isn't running?

My old car could charge my phone without the car running in at least on of the outlets. Now in my new Ford Fusion now of the ports will let me charge my phone without the car running. Any way I can change a fuse to allow my car to use one of these ports without the car running?

Ford problems…

Changing fuse will not work, because your new car is not wired to supply power to that fuse with engine off. You could only change wiring to have power to the 12v port when engine is off. But not knowing what your doing could cause problem on your new car.

Some power ports are constant power. Some are switched power. If the port charges the phone when the car is running, but not when it is off, the it is a switched power port. It CAN be rewired for constant power, but changing a fuse won't do it. You would have to disconnect the power supply for the power port from the circuit it is currently on, and connect it to a constant power circuit. If you know what you are doing, that can be done at the fuse box. As you seem to know less about chassis electrical circuits than I do, I recommend either getting professional help, or finding another way to charge your phone.

It is not a fuse thing. It is a wiring thing. Turn the car to Auxiliary, the port will work.

  • 12v outlet (cigarette lighter) in my 2009 Ford Fusion seems to have come loose. How can I fix this? There's still power coming to it, if I hold my phone charger in a certain angle it will work, but I can't constantly hold the charger while I'm driving.
  • Why won't my car battery keep charge? I have a 2005 Ford expedition. I bought a new battery about 3 weeks ago and now it won't keep charge. Lights work but are dim and it just makes a clicking sound when I try to start it. Also last battery had a lot of corrosion on it. Any idea what it could be? I can't get it to a mechanic because it won't turn on.
  • Can I charge a 12v battery from my cars 12v plug? I'm building a cooler stereo (cooler that has a car stereo and speakers in it) which is powered by a deep cycle battery. The thing will spend most of it's time in the back of my car (when not in use) and there's a ciggarrette lighter socket in the back and I was wondering if I had a male to make plug, could I charge the battery in the cooler from it? The battery is actually bigger in size than the battery in my vehicle. (Ford edge)
