Is the Ford Fiesta (US) a good car?
I'm 19 and I'm looking to buy a new car next year as mine is very old. I don't drive a whole lot. My dad keeps telling me to get a Fiesta. He drove one and loved it. I like the hatchback version better. If it's a 2011-13, I'd get a SES, SEL, or Titanium. If it's a 2014-18, I'd get a well optioned SE or Titanium. I haven't heard too much bad about the 1.6L I4 engine. I have heard a lot of bad things about the PowerShift "automatic" transmission. I heard it is plagued with problems. So with that being the case, I'd get the 5-speed manual transmission. I do have a few questions about the Fiesta though.
-Is it as fuel efficient as said to be?
-Are owners happy with them?
-Does the stereo work OK? (can always upgrade later, I really don't care either way)
-Aside from the PowerShift transmissions, is it reliable?
-Is it easy to get in and out of?
-Is it comfortable?
-Does it handle well or poorly?
-Can a normal size adult sit in the back or is the backseat just for looks and kids?
-Can it hold up to being owned, driven, and maintained meticulously for 10+ years?
-Would it be worth it or should I just go with a Fusion or Taurus?
Added (1). We've had an Explorer for 13 years and it's been nothing but reliable but, I don't want an SUV.
Added (2). I'm considering the Fiesta due to the fact that 80%-90% of the time, it's only me in the car. Is the Fiesta safe?
It is reliable, so sure.
The powershift is NOT a traditional automatic do has to be driven differently.
It will roll back and does not have creep.
You need to stop wait for traffic to move on and drive up to it.
It is a very nice tesnsmission.
Ford makes good products.
Your decision to go with the manual transmission is a good one. The automatic transmission in the Fiesta is plagued with bugs. Simpler is better in my opinion. My daughter insisted on a car with an automatic transmission so I had to rule out the Fiesta. She ended up buying a very nice 2012 Toyota Corolla and she is very happy with that car.
I own one… So yes
I know the 2017 with 2,4 L and 6 speed is great. Lotsa guts, still ex. MPG. Bit small though, and computer glitches daily--Cruise need to be turned off then on, same with the entertainment package or it gets stuck in "share".Great brakes, great handling. But, a bit small for avg. Adult, especially in back seat. Great stereo But needs resetting daily as said. Always started right up, hot/cold, no problems with 4500 feet altitude, either. Did not test AC as it was late Jan. Cruise (except for daily glitch) worked perfectly.Safer than a Pinto--but, anything is.
Of the big 3, most impressed by Fiesta. GM, ok but lackluster, less standard accessories, more bare bones. Chrysler, poor mileage, or that sluggish PT Cruiser and its problems.
Thought about buying a Focus as a bit bigger but heard some have bad valves.
On that price range it's the best one there's… I don't really know about the automatic transmission "bugs".
But to me it does get tiresome to have a manual car.
The best car ever!
