I've lost my key fob, what do I do?

I lost the key fob to my car, however I still have a regular manual key without the fob. I'd prefer to start using that, and just completely disable the key fob feature on my car. I'm worried that someone might find it, as i know i lost it on my street somewhere, and just start walking up and down the street until a car opens with it and then I've lost my car.

So I really just want to disable the entire feature in my car so that it doesn't work anymore.

I drive a 2012 Ford Fusion S, what are my options?

Go to the Ford dealership. They'll sell you a new fob and reprogram your car to recognize it.

They would still need the key to start the car

You get a new key fob at a dealer. It will take a LOT of money to disable the key fob system in your car, more than what you will pay for getting a new fob.

Don't worry

Get an automotive locksmith to recode your keys so that the ECU/transponder in your car no longer recognises the chip in your lost fob

If you buy another key FOB at the dealer when they program it to the vehicle it cancels the lost key FOB's setting so it won't work.
