Can a ford fusion 1.6l engine pull a horse trailer?

I'm getting a horse trailer but didn't know if my at can pull it. It's a ford fusion 1.6l and it doesn't say how much it can pull. Does anyone know?

Probably not - and certainly 'advisably not' !
If you go on to the "Caravan Club" website you will find all the relevant towing specs for the car. So as long as you know what the trailer and 'nag' weigh you can then draw your own conclusion.
The other question, of course is do you have the necessary licence to tow?

Short answer no chance.

If the trailer AND the horse are less than one tonne, probably yes. But that would be an abuse of that car.

check your technical licence or what is it called. There are maximum operation weights of both the car itself and of the towed buggy.

similarly, such information should be in the operator's manual you got with your car.

As AWD versions of the Fusion could be able to pull a light trailer loaded with ATV's or snowmobiles as the combined weight of the trailer and machines would come close to maxing out the car's towing capacity. If you want to end up paying out of your own pocket for damages after using your Fusion to tow a horse trailer as you could upgrade to a 3/4 or one tonne truck after you show up at the trailer dealership to take your horse trailer when the sales associates had already called police and threatened to have trespassing charges pressed. By the time you have paid for your court appearance and related fees to get your Fusion back you have wasted all chances to get the horse trailer as you could be risking your life to get the truck to pull the horse trailer.

It might be able to pull it the the combination of the horse box and the horse is going to be too heavy - high risk of "tail wagging dog".

There's a reason that people use landrovers etc for towing and its not just to show off the fact that they can afford a 4 x 4

Probably not. But towing heavy things with comically inappropriate vehicles seems to be a common occurrence in the UK

"Yeah I know that trailer weighs 4 tons, but my 1.2L Fiat can handle it no problem"

Your car is a dinky one in every way, and add the weight of a horse, potential headwinds, hills and highway driving, and it sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Under engineered, under powered and underweight," dragging" anything around besides a miniature pony is probably not a good idea.
On the positive side, it might be a safer bet to use a horse to pull your CAR! Peace.

It might be able to pull the trailer, just so long as you don't put any horses in it.

Most unlikely. See the link.

I have pulled a range rover in a fiesta with dame engine size. So yes it can do so.
Look in owners manual fro towing weights. Get weight of trailer and average horse. If it's within this? Then it's fine.
If we do lots off off road stuff? Then larger vehicle. With awd would be better. Eg Ford Kuga awd.

Hi as most horse weigh a lot and the trailer combined would be in excess of the towing weight of the car. No way try it and rip the back out of the car. Travel at a speed of a snail. Try to drive faster over 30 mph and the trailer starts to fish tail or snake.
so what you need is at least an old land rover or a something designed for the job. Hence the 4x4 as with a horse you will need to park on muddy fields for some events and a front wheel drive car will just dig itself in deeper and deeper.
ideal car or should i say truck is a land rover, discovery a range rover and a willing parent as i guessed right a young female. However rovers are known to break down a lot. So want reliable always gets you home only one make. Toyota land cruiser.
will tow up to two large horses in a rice box twin axle without an issue.

  • Horse trailer electrical to my truck I have a 2010 Ford Explorer and I'm getting ready to purchase a 1980 Imperial 2 horse trailer. My truck and the other owner s truck have a 7 prong connector and I need to know if there's wiring that connects from my truck straight to the trailer or if it just connects right to it without wiring. I have not seen the trailer in person or tried it out as it is too far away to make more than one trip.
