2007 ford fusion hard shifting?

My ford fusion shifts hard into reverse and when i'm driving it sometimes shifts hard into gears but other times its a very smooth ride. Any ideas?

HI simple over time gears and gear selectors become worn. After all a car makers want to make money. No point in building any car that lasts forever. So after 10 years this gearbox is worn and will need to be replaced.

Manual transmission - Check the fluid level in the hydraulic clutch…

Probably never had the trans serviced.

Have we checked fluid level for gearbox? Do follow manufactures recommendations e.g. Topping up hot? Engine running?
it may need a service as internal filters getting blocked?

It could be your clutch disk wearing out with your pressure plate or like the comments are saying, your gearbox. My car grinds gears at 3rd and reverse and shifts hard sometimes but that's because I have to replace the clutch kit.

Pee on it

Clutch free play. If juice clutch, water in fluid, gets spongy when hot and does not always disengage clutch fully. Flush, refill, bleed.

(No: " filters" in a manual! They should last forever unless realty abused, or oil left low.)

Selectors can wear and cause hard or no shifting. Grinding is a clutch problem.

Get the ATF filter and ATF changed.
Don't flush a automatic transmission.
