Ford 360 FE has two oil dipsticks?

In my 1972 f100 4x4 I have a 360 ford FE engine. It has two oil dipsticks. Both on the driver's side. One is further to the front and the other one further back on the block. The front one goes by the oil filter and the back one seems to go further down into the oil pan but I'm not sure. I can't find anywhere that explains this? The back stick is slightly longer and the back one is the only one that registers. It could just be bc maybe the front stick is the wrong size that someone put in and is too short? Anyway, I'm just curious as to why it has two dipsticks. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Added (1). Yeah it wouldn't be transmission bc I have a manual transmission.

You sure the back one isn't the transmission? It would be a slightly larger tube.

Someone has changed the oil pan is using one from a different year.
or it's the wrong timing chain housing.
or you have a older 352/390 block.
