Why is my car shaking when idle?
Here's the back story. Car is a 2001 Ford Focus hatchback.
Check engine light recently went on for a EGR censor.
As of yesterday my cruise control will not work, and when I went to turn my car on today it is making a chugging noise and vibrating. When you gas, it stops vibrating however as you slow down it starts again.
What are possible things wrong with the car?
(And yes, it has plenty of gas just filled up two days ago.)
First thing check the fuse for the cruise control to make sure its not blown. The second thing to check is a vacuum line.A lot of cruise control servos are operated by vacuum. If yours is vacuum operated, there's a good chance that the vacuum line goin to the cruise servo is leaking. This not only causes the cruise to malfunction but also causes the engine to idle rough.A rough idle will cause an engine to shake. The cruise servo will either be installed under the hood or possibly inside of the inner fenderwells. There's usually a vacuum tree which allows you connect numerous vacuum lines to it, mounted on firewall or inner fenders usually. Try to locate this part. If you can't find a part like this, trace any vacuum lines you see to the servo.Once you locate servo, check this vacuum line for leaks.Let engine idle while you spray carb cleaner or propane from a small torch around the vacuum hose and servo. The engine will idle up, down, or it will stall if you find a leak.Repair as necessary.
There might be a vibrator in it
My girlfriend's 2003 was making noise & shaking - Found it was a worn engine mount, the one on the passenger end of the engine.
- Why is my engine shaking during idle at stops and park? I got a ford 1999 taurus SE with 100,000 miles on it. I just changed the spark plugs and wireset out and it got even worse. I was thinking the IAC might of just gone bad but before I go get one I wanted to ask if there was anything else I could test before buying more new stuff for it.
- Car shaking around 30mph? I have a 95 Ford Taurus, a couple of days ago the car started to vibrate kind of like going over rumble strips but it would only last between 30-35mph. Any ideas what this could be?
- Car shaking and rattling? I have a 2000 Ford Taurus, it was driving fine until to day. The car just started shaking rattling, kinda sound ed like a lawn mower. Also seems to lose power at times and has trouble shifting gears. (It's an automatic). Of anyone can help that'd be great. Could it be the transmission it perhaps bad motor mounts?
- Car acceleration problem and idle problem. The car is a 2003 Ford Taurus? . When the car is running and in parked its making a loud consisted rev noise. However the rpm needle thingy is not moving. when i'm in drive the car acclerates on its own with the speed ever increasing. i did some googling and learned that it can be the TPS sensor or the idle air intake valve, among a million other possiblities.
