Why are American automakers eliminating choices for lower income consumers?

Ford doesn't make good econo cars
They make GREAT trucks
I own one
Unable to compete with foreign alternatives
For the longest time the American automotive makers have released far too many models Its not good ecomonics
The Koreans have stepped up their Kia/Hyundai reliability & price point in making small, lower cost cars & America is flocking to them when they need a little fella.
The American car brands arent seen as much in relaibity, but American trucks like Ford Tough's slogan says, are still selling. So, Ford refuses to lose money making cars for low income consumers while they lose money doing it.
Actually, with the rollback of Obama era regulations auto makers are now able to produce the cars people want, not the ones the government forces them to make. Do you really think that automakers would stop making the kind of cars that people want to buy? Why would they do that?
They need to keep the bus company in business
- Why would people buy older foreign cars instead of brand new American cars? I see it all the time, people driving 7-8 year old Mercedes or BMWs that they paid probably paid around $20,000. They could of easily gone out and bought a brand new Ford or Dodge, but they didn't. They bought a Mercedes with over 100k miles. All worn and torn on the inside. But aslong as they're shining on the outside I guess.
- Why don't automakers commonly make 3 or 5 cylinders? Most reliable cars like toyota or honda are only come with 4 and 6 cylinder are available and what do you think of those engines? There's still exist, like discontinued inline 5 of vw, few inline 3 on ford and mitsubishi but 3 are unreliable.
- Why don't American cars last as long as Japanese cars? My family has owned a Ford Taurus and a Nissan Altima of similar model years. Both cars are still running, but the Taurus has very low mileage (it's a 1999 with only 85,000 miles) and the interior is in horrible condition and the plastics Ford put in have been known for breaking. None of this has happened with the Altima, even though it has more miles. Why?
- Is a CHEVY Silverado a good pick up truck? How reliable and how maintenance free? Why many American insist on driving them? What about a DODGE RAM? Or a Ford F-150? how compared to a Toyota Tundra? actually I'm not noticing many Nissan Titans… But why? Nissan is not as good as Toyota?
