What market opportunities do you think Ford should focus on in the future?

I've been reading that Ford has somewhat been going down hill, so what do you think they should focus on?

Ford isn't going down hill. GM and Chrysler are going down hill. They are about bankrupt.
Ford is on fire! Their new product line is the best they have ever had. The quality of their vehicles is on par with Toyota and Honda. Did you know Consumer Reports rates the Ford Fusion's quality higher than the Toyota Camry? Did you know Ford has not issued as many recalls on new vehicle launches in the past 5 years?
Alan Mullally, the CEO of Ford, took over the company about 3 years ago. He is brilliant. He immediately saw the need for change at Ford. He is responsible for much of the progress.
Ford would actually turn a profit, if it wasn't for the bad economy. They are the only big 3 maker to not ask for a government bailout.
They are focused on all the right areas. They don't need to change a thing.

If you think that Ford is going downhill, then I sure hope that Toyota and Honda are listed as going down with it. Ford never got a bridge loan (that was NOT a bailout - bailouts are for banks) because they had enough cash left to sustain itself for a little while longer. They had that extra money because they (sorry, I don't know exactly what all this was) did something with financial accounts which cleared up any problems that may happen in the future. If they didn't do that a couple years ago, they would be in the same ditch as GM and Chrysler. Ford also has been in the hybrid market for basically the same period that Toyota has too. The hybrid Prius came out in 2001 in the US, and really wasn't a largely desired vehicle until the last few years when Ford developed the Escape Hybrid in 2004, which was only a year after Honda introduced its Civic hybrid. When was Chevy or Chrysler's first hybrid first on the market?

Now, getting away from the idea that Ford is going down hill, I'll say what vehicles they are focusing on.

The Focus. It's obvious considering that it fits into the same class as the Honda Civic and Toyota Yaris. The problem, though, is that Ford isn't making a lot of money off of these to really bank their future on.

The Fusion. The Fusion has gotten high reliability marks, and Ford likes to use the fact that it scored higher than any other mid-sized sedan in the world, including the Accord and Camry.

The Escape. The Escape its class leader of fuel economy. I test drove one this summer, and it was a fun little SUV. I like the fact that the gas mileage is very good and you still get that SUV feel. Ford really tries to market this hard but the results need to be bigger.

The F-150. Yes, the pickup segment for any car company today is not usually the first place that people look at unless you absolutely need it for business. Ford's all new redesigned F-150 is a big hit for them. It perfected a lot of little things that people wanted in their trucks, which is why it needs big sales, which Ford expects should somewhat happen despite a dwindling economy. These little things include class leading gas mileage, an advanced trailer sway control system, Microsoft's Sync, a tailgate step/railing, and increased power. The great thing about the F-150 is that despite all the rebates on them, Ford can still make a nice profit.

The Mustang. These cars don't make huge sales, but with the new introductions of the Challenger and Camaro, Ford needs to make sure that these sales hold steady, which is the reason for the newly redesigned 2010 model.

The new 2010 Taurus. Ford got a lot of attention when they officially unvealed the new Taurus in the past couple of weeks. The price is pretty good and the consumer gets a lot of new gadgets to play with like Sync, a massaging driver's seat to prevent cramps or soreness, adaptive cruise control, blind spot sensors, and probably more that I missed. Plus, like the former Taurus, the new model boasts some of the best safety ratings of any vehicle made in the world. This should compete with the Accord and Camry, and hopefully draw some customers from potential sales of those models.

You are reading something that no one else is reading. Ford is the ONLY US auto manufacturer that does not need a bail out. Why?
Because they are the only ones with technology even close to japan.
I have a fusion and it rivals camry and beats accord in many tests. They have tons of new technology that is better than foreign like eco-boost and the ne wfusion hybrid which gets better mileage than comparable sized hybrids and kills the chevy hybrid. It can't even compete. Go get a magazine and read it. Stop reading the papers.
