What could be causing my 2001 Ford Focus SE wagon to be overheating?
Reservoir is full of coolant, new radiator hose put on not that long ago but the needle is almost in the red when I drive it. Could this be the water pump?
Added (1). If it were the bottom hose wouldn't I be very low or out of coolant?
It could be the Water Pump, it and the Radiator are the 2 most important parts. But it could just need a new Radiator Cap, without pressure in the cooling system it will overheat. But run the car with the Radiator or Reservoir Cap OFF and see if it shoots out or blows bubbles. Smell the vapors coming out, coolant smells sweet, exhaust gasses don't. That would indicate bad Head Gasket. Yes, if the lower hose was leaking it would be very low on coolant, I shouldn't have to tell you that.
The first thing to do if you have all the air pockets purged out of the cooling system is to replace the thermostat.
Run the motor for 15 minutes with the radiator cap off to get the air out of the cooling system. You should be able to see the coolant flowing in the radiator to verify that the water pump is working.
I would replace the thermostat before messing around with anything else except burping the radiator. My 2000 Focus was starting to show thermostat issues (wouldn't close and ran cool in low temperatures) when it was about 15-16 years old.
- When I depress the clutch medal on my 2001 ford Taurus I can feel a scraping feeling under neath the brake pad. What is causing this? It has new pads, rotors, calipers, it's been bled. So it would be nice to locate this so I can fix it.
- Car overheating, slight leak, rattle when accelerate - What could this be? Hi, I have a 1993 ford Taurus. Lately, my car has been overheating and I have noticed that there's a bit of leak. I have been keeping it full and it the temperature was fine. Just a few hours ago, the coolant was full but it skyrocketed to hot and makes a rattling noise when I accelerate. What could this be? I just got an oil change about a week agao, could this be related?
- My 2000 Ford Windstar has a coolant leak. What could be causing it to leak? It has two leaks. One is from the passenger side near the front tire and the second is right below the driver's seat. I have to replace the coolant after I have had the heater on for a bit. I never have it on for more than 15 min. Not because the coolant runs out in that time but I just don't use it for long. I took it to the mechanic and he stated it was the "lower intake manifold gasket". I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas because that repair is pretty pricey.
- My car is making noise when I turn the wheel, what could be causing it? I put power steering fluid in and double checked it to make sure it was full, which it is. But whenever I turn the wheel it still makes a terrible noise, i almost want to not drive it anymore just because of that noise. Anyone have an idea what it could be? Is it the power steering pump maybe? If it helps, my car is a 2001 Ford Mustang, FWD. The noise is coming from the front of the car.
