Should I replace the oil in my new car?
I bought a new Ford Focus. I have read that replacing the oil after the first 1000 miles can benefit the engine's lifespan. What are the pros and cons of such an oil change, and would you recommend it?
No problem, just go for it!
Yes it can. All engines require a break-in period. The factory uses special oil that is designed to help the engine along during the break in process, but after that 1000 miles there are more benefits to be had using the regular oil than the break-in stuff. Also recommend using full synthetic. It costs a little more, but what the dealer won't tell you is you can also go at least twice as long between changes than conventional, so you're really spending the same amount and taking great care of your motor in the process. If you plan on keeping the car for a while, you should ask the dealer about an oil change plan. Some manufacturers will warranty your engine if you run their brand of oil in it all it's life. Same goes with your transmission, and power steering.

The oil light was not on when we went there and was not on after we left. It just came on now with a message saying that the oil needed to be changed. So what is causing this? I know the light doesn't need to be reset because it was not on before the oil change or afterwards until now.
