Keeping up with the Joneses?
Recently I was on a business trip in Florida. I feel like I'm fairly successful for a 30 year old, have a house, car, and able to pay all my bills/taxes and still have some left over to save. Still, I went to a good buddies house tonight and was blown away by just how much of a gap there was between he and I. He is currently 36, but it seems like I may not catch up to that level until I retire. He has a 500k house, super nice cars, and seems to be making money hand over fist. My house is under 100k, I drive a Ford Focus which isn't anything special but gets the job done, and I make just enough to afford a moderate lifestyle in my home state of Ohio. I mean I'm happy and all, but I feel like I'm not even near the level of success as he is and wonder if I will ever even come close to that lifestyle.
Don't mistake this for jealousy as I admire and love my friend, it's just I want to know if I'm failing or if he is just a very special outlier. Another difference is party habits seem to be purely based on business whereas I enjoy a good party just for the sake of a good party. He and I both have smoked ganja and drank together, but he does so significantly less and seems to get more of a "lift" from making a good business deal or putting his kids to bed. I'm going to try and learn from his example, but I feel that I still wouldn't be anywhere close to his level of success.
You know what he SHOWS you.
He might actually be drowning in debt and putting on a brave face.
Focus on your own success, and growing your own success.
You never really know what's going on with someone else.
I bet your friend has some problems in his life that he doesn't show. I'd be willing to bet there are things you have in your life he would like to have as well. He has an image to uphold, so he'd probably not admit it. Enjoy him as a friend and leave it at that. Don't spend too much time worrying or comparing yourself. Sounds like you are doing just fine, so remember to appreciate yourself for that.
There's more to life than what you have, if you want to do that too just ask him how he does it
- Why would Ford harbor a grudge when Kavanaugh's mother actually ruled favorably toward her parents, who ended up keeping their home? CLAIM: In a 1996 foreclosure case, Judge Martha Kavanaugh ruled against Ralph and Paula Blasey, thus providing motive for revenge for their daughter Christine against Judge Kavanaugh's son Brett, a Supreme Court nominee in 2018. RATING: False.
- 2014 Ford Escape's RPMs keeping jumping between 35-45mph? I have a 2014 Ford Escape 2.0L that when I accelerate between 35-45mph, the RPMs jump and the car shakes. Before or after those speeds it's fine. Would a transmission fluid exchange help with this? Car is at 73k miles. Purchased at 31k miles. Have not gotten a tranny fluid exchange yet.
- Are you happy Trump is keeping American jobs here? Oops, except Ford jobs and Harley Davidson jobs. How come Harley Davidson is moving jobs? To Thailand when Trump bragged about being able to keep jobs here? Could it be that Trump is full of hot air just like every other politician?
