Hows the battery?

Car is not cranking, check the battery.

Car is cranking but will not start:

Charge the battery. Spray starting fluid on the intake and try to start. Car starts and dies, check for a bad fuel pump fuse. Check pressure with a gauge while cranking. Pressure is zero, check the wiring diagram of the fuel system on your car. It might have a fuel pump driver module. That is a common failure on Fords. Confirm by checking for power and ground at the pump while cranking with a test light. Power is bad, the module is likely bad. If it does not have a module, check for a bad fuel pump relay.

Car does not start with the starting fluid, check for spark. Check if the injectors are firing or getting command to fire with a noid light. No spark and the injector is not getting command to fire, check for a bad crank sensor.

Replacing parts before diagnosing the problem is a fool's game. FAIL.

Do you have spark and injector pulse?
What's the fuel pressure?
Just guessing and throwing parts at something you don't understand is expensive!

  • I have a 2006 Ford focus zx4. It over heats? The cooling fan makes a grinding noise when it attempts to come on. Do I need a mechanic or can I fix this issue at home. I'm just a regular person who doesn't mind diy to conserve on the dollars. I do know a little about using tools tho.
  • 2006 Ford Focus fuel pump driver location? My focus will not start, has no fuel pressure and fuel pump not working at all. Have replaced the fuel pump with a tested one and still not working. Have also tested the old one and it is also ok. The fuel gauge works ok, but fuel pump is not kicking in at all. All fuses are ok and have changed our relay also. Does anyone know where the fuel pump driver module is located please?
  • I own a 2006 Ford Expedition. I just had the coil packs and plugs changed? After having them changed, when the truck gets warm. The idle drops down to 250 rpm's and it dies when slowing down to a stop or turning. Can't find any vacuum leak and double checked all electrical connections. Any advice on what it could be?
