Is it safe to buy a ford with 150,000 miles?
I'm in the market for my first car and I found a 2012 Ford Focus with 150,000 miles for $5000. The owner says they've never had any problems with it. Is it a good idea to buy a ford with 150,000 miles? Am I going to have to spend a lot on repairs? How much longer is it going to last?
Nope
I would not. Not unless you only expect to keep it for a year or two. There will definitely be things that need to be replaced with that many miles on it.
150k miles in 4 years? Sounds like they did a lot of highway driving with the car. It's a toss up really. $5k might be a little high. Might wanna check the private party value in kelly blue book to get an idea of what you should be paying for it before you slide any money across the table.
That car has nearly three times the normal mileage for a four year old car. I wouldn't touch it with a 20 foot pole. Sounds like it's been used as a commercial vehicle.
The owner says he's never had any problems with it? No reason for the owner to lie now.
Don't go by what the owner "says" go by what the owner can prove. If the seller can't show proof of all proper and complete service and maintenance records you could be running a big risk.
The auto is garbage.
In 2008 I got a 2004 Focus with 51,000 miles for that sort of money. It has 128,000 now and is running fine. But I expect it to have a major engine or transmission failure sometime in the next 30,000 miles. 40,000 tops.
Basically you would be buying a car that might be good for 2-3 years for you.
$5,000 is too optimistic.
- Do you think buying a 2000 ford focus with 161,000 miles a good car purchase? For 1,000? I'm wondering if anyone will recommend, a 2000 ford focuse with 161,000 mileage as my first car, I recently got my drivers permit I want a car to practice my driving skills and I stubbled into the 2000 ford focus.
- Should I even be thinking about buying a 2005 Ford F-150 with 261,000 miles? I have been in desperate need of a vehicle since my truck was stolen earlier last month and have come across, what seems to be a good deal. It is a 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat 4WD that drives great and doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it. But, it does have 261,000 miles on it. The dealer wants $8,980. What do you guys think? Again, I did test drive it and it seemed like a great feeling and sounding truck.
- Safe to buy a truck with high miles and repair it? I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a 2007 ford f150 with 233,000 miles for only $6,000 and just save up enough money for a new engine ($3,000-4,000 more dollars) when it goes out and have a pretty new truck with a new engine. It's a very clean truck in EXCELLENT condition, it just has a lot of miles. Or is this just a really bad idea? I attached a picture of the truck.
- Is a 2006 Ford F150 with 230,000 miles safe to buy? There's a used 2006 Ford F150 XLT crew cab with a 5.4 V8 engine for sale with 230,000 miles. It costs $6,600 and was a gas company truck. Is it safe to buy? And if so is the price good for it?
