I have oil in one of my cylinders on my Ford Focus Wagon Is it still safe to drive?
I have a ford focus wagon and one of the four cylinders has oil in it. I was told by my friend who is a mechanic that he changed the spark plugs for me for free. It runs great and I hear no car noises. Any temporary fixes if it needs to be fixed? What should I do!
Very tough to answer. More detailed info is required to accurately diagnose. Most often oil ruining spark plugs comes from valve cover gasket leaks and oil pooling up around the plug ruining the wires and sometimes leaking into the combustion chamber our fouling out the plug.
If your friend is saying there's oil in the actual combustion chamber you'd have to get into some pretty serious repair work just to find it. Possibilities include gaskets/rings/valve stem seals/oil leaking past spark plugs/etc you won't know until you further investigate. The cost of such repairs is ridiculous if not doing it yourself, most people would consider selling the vehicle ones internal problems like that start developing.
Stay away from any form of stop leak. Also if there's oil leaking into a combustion chamber it should be visible coming out of the exhaust. If your friend is describing oil leaking into the spark plug tubes (if you have a DOHC engine the plugs generally sit inside of tubes right through the center of the valve cover) then replace the gasket and the tube seals (sometimes you have to use silicone gasket material if actual seals aren't available) and you'll be fine.
- Front Bumper is gone on the used car I just bought. How much to fix it? Is it safe to drive? I just bought a used car for $1300 the only issues with it our the rear suspension needs to be fixed and the front fender is missing completely. There's no metal at all and no cover so the bottom half of the radiator is exposed. Its an 02 ford Taurus and I'm wondering how much a complete new bumper is going to cost like a ball park estimate? And is it safe to drive it without the front bumper temporarily?
- Is it safe to drive a ford ranger on the freeway for long trips? Can a ford ranger safely sustain speeds of 85-90 mph without any problems at all? I'm looking for a pickup truck that can haul stuff and is good for driving off roaming occasionally but I also what a pickup that has good performance as well. My question is can a 2007 ford ranger XLT 4.0 v6 5 speed manual sustain speeds of 85-90 mph or is that pushing the limits of this truck?
- Performance Camshafts safe to drive without a tune? I just installed some Ford hot rod camshafts in my 2010 mustang GT and also have shorty headers, a cold air intake, cat back exhaust, and 24 lb ford racing injectors and was wondering if it is safe to drive for 2 weeks without a tune, my dyno appointment isn't until the 22nd
- Why does my 2001 Ford Focus SE Wagon have a vibration? I have new motor mounts, new dog bone mount in the rear, new plugs and wires, no check engine lights yet there's this "vibration" when I'm idling.
