How tight is 6 foot pounds?

I'm putting the valve cover back on my 2002 Ford Focus. I looked it up and the bolts have to be torqued to 6 foot pounds. The problem is my torque wrench starts at 15 torque pounds, and I can't go get one that works that low because I can't drive my car. So as far as hand tightening the bolts, how can I gauge when it's about six foot pounds. Aka how tight to I make them?

Put your hand on the torque wrench, 12 inches from the bolt. Pull with a little less force than lifting a gallon of milk (8 lbs).
This estimates 6 ft.lbs. Of torque.

You need a 1/4" or 3/8" torque wrench to go that low. Just snug it up and don't worry about the torque.

  • What's a roomy first car for a 6 foot guy? So I'm turning 16 soon. And that means license. I'm looking at cars. I'm a tall guy and I hate being crunched. Right now we have 2 cars: a small ford and an impala. The ford is like one of those small big cars and the impala is so roomy. What are some other cars that are roomy? I'm also looking at some stuff like yukon a and tahoes but I think gas mileage is a good thing to remember also.
  • 2007 Ford Taurus rough idle and dies of I don't put my foot on the gas? I have a 2007 Ford Taurus that has a very rough idle but once I get to 30 miles per hour or so everything is fine. Since this started my battery is always dead when I go to start my car. I've replaced the ignition coil and the wires cause autozone said that was the problem. But it still is acting the same way. The car dies when in idle and I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated.
