How much would it cost to get a new heqdgasket put in?

The headgasket in my car is leaking and the car is buring oil. About how much can I expect to pay for the part and labor? It's a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 150000 miles.

The head gasket won't fix the oil burning. Usually oil burning is a sign of work out piston rings. The question you are asking is variable depending on who is doing the work. You need to contact auto repair shops and they should be able to give you repair time estimates, labor expenses, and will probably give a few suggestions as well.

The headgasket does several duties, but keeping the oil from burning is NOT one of them.

You could probably find an independent mechanic who would do the gasket for a couple hundred bucks - - but as others say, that won't address the oil burning. That could be valve stem seals, valve stems or valve guides… All could be addressed while the head is off for more money.

We don't know what shape the car is in: if the interior & body are in good shape and the car has been well maintained, there's more miles left it in and it's worth the investment. It's your call - - - a good mechanic can assess your situation… Yeah, rings could be shot - - - - or it could be a simple PVC valve or hose.

You mean more like a replacement engine- the mechanic should tell you if it make sense to replace a head gasket on an engine that is burning oil since it most likely won't fix that.
