Can the dealership take my car because they can't verfy my employment? And if they do will I be refunded?

So I signed a finance contract with a dealership for a 2014 Ford Focus on Friday 11/9/18. The following week they called me and told me that they were having trouble verifying my employment. I work on a contract/assignment basis and m supervisors home office isn't located in the State of South Carolina where I bought the car. I gave them my supervisors number she said she tried to call them but they told her they need to speak with someone from the HR department which IS HER and that it can't be a cell phone number. My supervisor told them that this is her work number and that the home office number is not given for solicitation or debt collection. My supervisor is the one that hired me, gives me my assignments and I turn my timesheets into. She said the lady she talked to was very rude and hung up on her. I woke the next morning and the car was gone I called and they said there was a repossession on it. I haven't even made my first payment. And it was at this point I realized I was dealing with a shady scam dealership. I'm only 21 years old this was my first car not with a co-signer I put $1920 towards the downpaument at this point I don't even care to deal with people like that anymore. They took the car without default in the loan which was against contract. If the loan didn't go through that's fine I just want my money back. I'dk what to do I have no family no friends to help I'm young dumb and just trying to survive any advice?

Find a local attorney… You're going to need one

Probably not all of it, but you ought to get some back if they have the car.

How did you make the down payment? If you used a credit card, put a stop on the payment. Far easier to make them fight you.

Yes, this sounds like a bait and switch dishonest dealer. If you can stop the payment and they come after you, you will need legal advice. If your contract says 'loan subject to work confirmation' then you might have a problem but even then you have a strong case for the return of your deposit.

Why did you take the car if the approval wasn't done yet?

You are not dumb. Your employer is. Obviously, the car dealership called for "employment verification", not for solicitation or debt collection. Your employer lost you the car. They were not shady and they did not scam you. You failed to give a land line number and your employer refused to give it, using a stupid, irrelevant excuse. Under the circumstances, they had every right to take "their" car.
