I have a 01 ford tarus have to press on brakes to get it out of park?

That is a mandatory safety feature instituted by the federal government. It's suppose to do that…

NOT a problem obviously

You should put it in drive and then step on the brake. Then start the car.

That is normal. Nothing wrong with your car.

No chit, cherlock.

I have a '92 Explorer have to turn on the ignition to hear the radio.

Yep, ALL vehicles are like that now days.

It is supposed to be like that. My 2002 Cadillac Sedan Deville does the same thing. It won't even let you out till you turn the key off.

I'm pretty sure that is standard on most vehicles.

  • Why won't my car come out of park? When I tried putting my 1976 Ford Gran Torino into neutral to push it back because it doesn't stay running it wouldn't go out of park I even went under the car to put it into neutral because the linkage is messed up and it still didn't go out of park can someone please tell me what's wrong?
  • 99 Ford ranger XLT base model. Park lights, dash lights, and license plates lights out I checked online and realized it was probably a fuse which it is. Fuse 11 in my power distribution box. The problem is I keep replacing at and soon as I turn on my lights it blows instantly. Have replaced it multiple times. So then I looked under my truck and disconnected the wiring to my taillights and replaced the fuse, it worked it didn't blow. Dash lights and license plates lights were on so I figured some where there's a problem with the brake lights. Any suggestions?
  • My gear shifter won't come out of park, my a/c, windshield wipers, and windows will not work? I have a 2001 ford focus zx3. I took it to a mechanic and he can't see me until Tuesday. He did look under the hood and said it wasn't anything simple. I've heard many things like battery cables, my computer or a fuse. What's wrong with my car and how much is it going to be to fix it?
  • I have a 2004 ford explorer XLT. I'm unable to get the car out of park. My break lights do work? I'm at an incline with rear facimg downwards. I've located the break shift interlock slot but not exactly sure how to override it. And yes I do have my foot on the break when switching.
