Look at April of Consumer Reports, auto guide, to see what what the owners say

Yaris is a better bet.

Not Ford. Maybe Honda. But, I would suggest a larger car too.

I don't know what year cars you are asking about but you might want to compare these reports:

If you are in the UK, you need to be aware that many of the "automatic" versions of both are not true automatics, but are instead forms of automated manual transmission, which don't have the driveability, smoothness or reliability of traditional automatics. The "MMT" or "multimatic" transmission fitted to some versions of Yaris has a particularly poor reputation for driveability. Some versions of the Fiesta (e.g. 2009-2011/12 1.4 petrol) had a proper automatic transmission, which is preferable.
If you can stretch to a Yaris Hybrid, with its CVT transmission, that is preferable to the MMT.
US-market Fiestas have a poor reliability reputation, hence some of the other answers, but European/UK-market Fiestas, built in Cologne, have a pretty good reputation.

I would avoid a Yaris MMT, and be slightly wary of a Fiesta Powershift, but a Yaris Hybrid or Fiesta automatic would be a good choice.
Also consider the Kia Rio or Hyundai i20, previous versions of which had proper automatics, and usually good reliability.
