Should ford have done away with the fiesta in 2008 with a new car name instead?

No, but I was always confused between the Festiva and the Fiesta, like why they had two cars with such similar names.

What? ModelA model T Ford Probe Explorer Everest Ka the posdibilities are endless

Possibly so

No. Small cars always end up failing in the market. Think Pinto.

Escort or Export. Do Mexicans want a car named after a nap? Don't know.

No. The Fiesta has been very successful for Ford in many world markets (particularly Europe and South America).
Over the various generations of the car, it has been a consistently strong seller in Europe since its introduction in 1976.
The previous Fiesta was a very good car, even if the styling was a little dull. The 2009 car may have had vastly better styling, but it didn't represent a step-change in any other way, so it was better to build on the previous car's success and market recognition than to spend the many millions of Pounds, Euros, Reals etc. Necessary to introduce a new name to the market.
