Is it reliable enough to buy?

I have found an idea first car, a Ford Fiesta TDCI van 2009 diesel 1.4. However it has 214000 miles on the clock. The car comes with a 4 year service history and is externally impeccable. Do you think that it is reliable enough to purchase considering the mileage?

Love in Siberia, you have no idea what you're talking about. Having several vehicles work well over 200k myself, I will say that it is possible that the van may be impeccable, but only if regularly serviced and has had some engine and drivetrain work done. With a vehicle with that much baggage, do your homework and factor in what you'd be using it for. Try to remain objective and listen/watch closely for squeaks, leaks, or smoky exhaust.

Don't touch it with a bargepole. Fords TDCI engine is far from the longest lasting diesel around any way.

It'll be f8cked, vans always are, and have you tried getting an insurance quote for a van, you may be in for a shock.

It depends on what the service history tells you, Has there been any major work to the engine, gearbox and brakes. At that mileage you hope the engine has had a rebuild or even replacement, if not it's getting towards the end of a viable working life.

Don't forget insurance for a van is often more than a car version of a similar model.

Most cars are in scrap yard long before 200,000 miles

What? Hell no. You should never buy a vehicle over 50,000 miles. Most don't make it to 200,000. That's a towing waiting to happen.
