Brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal arm. It may be faulty or need adjustment.
If the brakes are working as they normally do it's either the sensor in the brake fluid reservoir turning the light on or the emergency brake was used and the cables didn't allow the brake to turn off all the way. Try unplugging the reservoir sensor and then start the motor and see if the light goes out. The light will be on if you just turn the key to the on position so you need to start the motor to make sure that unplugging the reservoir sensor turns the light off. I wouldn't even bother plugging the reservoir sensor back in if unplugging it turns the light off. It's not really doing anything that matters. If the brake fluid gets low it's because the brake pads need replacing and people hear the grinding before the reservoir sensor light goes on.

Any ideas why the switch is not working when I push the brakes and lights come on when I push it by hand?
- Can I replace my metal brake lines with copper or aluminum brake lines? I have a 2001 ford focus ZTS and a rear metal brake line cracked and i've tried flaring new metal brake lines but my cheap flaring kit doesn't seem to handle metal lines and was wondering if copper or aluminum would be easier to flare? Can I use copper or aluminum lines on my car? What're the pros and cons?
- Problem with ABS and brake light on Ford F150? I have a 2001 F150. Front brakes replaced a few months ago. Last night, I realized my rear brake lights weren't working. I'm not sure how long they've been out or if it's related to the bigger problem. While testing the brake lights by pressing the brake pedal, the pedal seemed to give out and sink lower. While driving the brakes worked but only when I pushed the pedal all the way in. Eventually the ABS light came on and stayed on. Any advice?
