What size of good normal tires would replace 305/40/r22's?

I basically understand tire dimensions but I need a little guidance with this one -I have 22's right now, one of them got shredded up and I was gonna replace them anyway, with "regular" tires with more air space in them, since I'm carrying stuff in the back pretty frequently.

So I need to know what size I need. It's a 2005 Ford F150, and the wheels on it are 305/40/22. Thanks!

Added (1). To be clear I'm looking at wheels *and* tires, since I'd need different rims.

If you want more air to cushion the truck, then you need to buy tires with a bigger number where the '40' is. You could switch to 305-50-22's & keep the wheels & get a slightly softer ride. But, if the truck has ABS, then all four need to be the same size.

This truck came with several different tire and rim sizes. Pick up a set of the factory 17", either the 6 hole or 7 hole, whichever you have and buy some 245/70/17

Dropping back down to a original equipment tire and rim size will benefit you in many ways. What are your options? There are a few, depending on the trim level of your F-150 and if it is either a 6 or 7 lug set up. Go to tirerack.com to find out.
