What makes my Ford F-150 run rough?
I have a 2009 F-150. It runs like a dream most of the time. But, sometimes, when I'm slowing down to come to a stop, it will run very rough and sound like it is rattling underneath. This only lasts for about a minute or two, then after I come to a complete stop and before I turn off the key, it stops running rough and runs normal again. What could be causing this?
If there was a problem with the battery or alternator, the battery light would light up yellow or red.
This symptom points to carbon build up the butterfly valve in the intake where the air intake assembly connects to the manifold. Look up how to clean it as not all vehicles were created the same.
Check your alternator output, at the battery. Should read around 13.6 volts with lights and heater on, running. Also check your battery for a load test at a battery shop, could have a couple of weak cells. Not getting enough voltage or amps to the coil for proper output.
Thank you. I will check that out. It is a brand new battery. I will have it checked, too.
- Ford Ranger 4.0, 172,000 miles rough idle when starting after sitting overnight or after 2-3 hours. Starts 1st crank, idles rough 1 minute? Or so and then smooths out and runs fine. New heads and gaskets. Cleaned MAF sensor, throttle body and air intake sensor, new IAC valve, new air and fuel filters, new PCV valve. No smoke coming from exhaust and No check engine light. Any ideas what's causing this rough idle?
- I bought an Actron CP9125 Code Reader to try and diagnose a rough idle at cold start on a 98 Ford 4.0 engine. The rough idle had not caused? The CEL to come on. I plugged the code reader in with just the key on and pressed read and the little asterisk goes half-way across the screen one time and stops. I press the read button again and it reads 0 codes. I was thinking it would scan multiple times to check for pending codes or other issues. I tried it with the engine running and the same thing happens. Is this code reader operating properly?
- Will a leveling kit made for a 2009 F-150 fit on a 2008 F-150? I'm trying to buy a leveling kit off of a friend but he has a 2009 F-150. I have a 2008 Limited F-150.Was curious to know if Ford still kept the same spring and shock design from 2008/2009.
- I would like to know if 04-08 Ford F-150 rear suspension parts would fit on my 1998 Ford F-150? I'm building a prerunner and have already received a long travel kit for the front of my 1998 Ford F-150, but I'm having trouble finding rear suspension parts for it. Honestly I'm perfectly fine with just a pair of Fox 2.5 Factory piggybacks, but I can only find some for the 04-08 Ford F-150 and I just wanted to know if they would bolt onto my 1998 Ford F-150.
