My insurance is 174$ a month at 16 with no points?

I pay 174$ a month through Proggresive for liability. I don't drive a fast or dangerous vehicle I drive a 1995 ford f150 with an inline 6. How can I improve my rates? I can barely afford to drive

Sorry, but that's about as cheap as it gets for a 16 year old. If you shop around you might find a slightly cheaper rate, but only by a few dollars, and of course it has to be through your parents policy that you are insured and they may not want to switch insurance companies because the longer they stay with the same company, the cheaper their own rates become. The only way the insurance for you will go down is over time as long as you maintain a perfect record of no accidents or violations. Maybe you'll get lucky, but 50% of all young drivers have an accident before age 20, and 85% get a driving violation, both of which will result in a significant increase in insurance premiums. So, if you can barely afford it now, don't get any tickets or have any accidents because you definitely won't be able to afford it then.

Pickups are not all that safe. Trade it in and get a Subaru Outback.

16 years old= super expensive insurance. There's no way around it. Just drive without it for a few years, but be super careful.

You can improve your rates by moving to a place where rates are lower. Even if you don't move, your rates will improve over time, simply because you will be older. Although many things can have a small effect on insurance rates, the two main factors are the age of the driver and where the driver lives.

Get older, keep your record clean, save money in a bank account.

Welcome to the expensive world of driving a car.
You get a reduction with AGE so have some birthdays.
You can speed it up by taking some extra driving courses. For example a defensive driving course.

did you think having a car is just the cost of gas?

Expect your car to cost between $10 and $20 per day just to be parked and ready to go.
That is about $3000 per year to a lot more depending how much you drive and if you have any issues like a repair or ticket.
Just the way it is. Too many others your age have shown they are not the best at driving.
Insurance needs to collect lots of premiums to pay out for the bad ones.
Improve your rates by getting a vehicle that costs less to repair, does not get stolen very much.

Your vehicle is not expensive compared to many others. It is more than some.

Where did you think insurance gets the money for those huge payouts after accidents or to pay for the millions of cars damaged in Hurricanes and hail storms?

You might get a lower rate if you move.

You are supposed to be in high school. Take the school bus. If you are working now, finish school, preferably to learn a trade that pays good.

You can improve your rates by aging to 25 years old or by marrying. That is about it.

For only liability, the vehicle means little for the rate.
BTW The dollar sign ($) goes BEFORE the number, not after it.

Only buy liability insurance. There's no point in having collision coverage on that old truck.

Nothing to do except keep that mvr clean and get older.
