Is a rear wheel bearing replacment the same as the front on 2003 ford f150 xl?

I'm trying to understand the concept of rear wheel bearings on my ford f150. Somehow I have confused myself and i'm not sure if a bearing install is the same in the rear as it is in the front for DIY purposes. Can anyone help elaborate on that?

You need to remember: The rear wheel bearings are pressed on to the rear axles. You got two axles that extend to the rear end… A left and a right axle.

On the front, you have spindles, not axles.

If you do not have a press. It is best just to get it done by a shop.

If you need to ask, don't do this yourself. I may be the car in front of you one day.

So no, they appear to be really different, and does require removing all the wheel hub and drum,

Not the same, the front is as you woukd expect with brake drum removal, and bearing, but back bearing is inset, might as well take to shop, or know you have tools as backyard mechanic would, not just bearings, but seals have to carefully replaced, that axle has to come out, meaning the Center differental axle cover has to be drained, removed, removing the lock clip to pull out the axle and then you access the bearing, which video shows a slip in puller,

Go on youtube and look up a video for replacing the rear axle bearings on your vehicle. Rear bearings are not the same as replacing the front hub assemblies.

It's a little more difficult as the axles have to come out.

Those are done differently. The rear wheel bearing is on the axle you need to remove from the axle housing to get at it. The front wheel bearing is on the wheel spindle and in the drum or rotor of the brake. I'd rather do a front wheel bearing on that any day, than do the rear.

On this vehicle Ford F150 the bearing are pressed into the tubes, NOT pressed onto the axles, but the axles are retained by C-clips inside the diff, this is a job that is best left alone by someone that hasn't done it before…

Yes it is pretty much the same only your front wheels turn

  • What Ford Taurus bumpers (front or rear) would fit a 2003 ford Taurus ses? Looking around and seen someone with a 2004 front bumper on a 2003. Looks nice but curious if any other bumpers would fit? I installed new centennial edition headlights with Silver Star Ultra lights. here's what it looks like so far.
  • New wheel bearing and still noise? I have a 1997 2wd 2.3 liter Ford Ranger and the front passenger side wheel was making loud noise and the wheel was pulling that way and I replaced the wheel bearing and a couple days later the same side is making that noise again and and pulling that way again. It has 4 brand new tires on it and the wheels aligned.
  • How to undo bolts on Ford Galaxy 2003 Front & Rear brake caliper to renew disc's and pads? I need to renew the disc's and pads at the front and rear of Ford Galaxy 2003. I have the correct sockets and a large extension bar, but they will not budge (front or rear). I have tried WD40, thinking of trying a little heat, but its a bit near to the brake hoses. All suggestions gratefully received. I have a full workshop manual on this car issued by Ford which just says that they are tightened to 190Nm. The front bolts are huge 27mm and the rear bolts are 18mm.
  • One shop tells me hose is kinked, another says bad wheel bearing, what is going on? Someone mentioned we should replace the wheel because it was warped, we replaced the wheel. We then had the same issue and shop mentioned we need to replace wheel bearing. We shopped around and went to another shop that said wheel bearing is fine, but the brake hose is kinked. They state that the kinked brake hose is causing the wobble sound… 2007 Ford Fusion SE
