Can you trade in a vehicle with a different make than the dealer sells?

This may be a silly question, but can you trade in a vehicle at a dealership that does not sell the make you currently have? For example, if I want to trade in a Ford F150 at a Mazda dealership to put towards a new Mazda vehicle, will the dealership give me an offer? Or would I have to go to a Ford dealer?

Absolutely. Happens hundreds of times daily throughout the country. You can trade in your owned vehicle at any and every dealership.

Yes, this is very common. Just go to any new car dealership and look around on their used (aka "pre-owned) lot - you will see all types of cars from various manufacturers.

The Mazda dealer would be happy to take your F150 as a trade toward a new Mazda or even toward some other vehicle on their used lot.

Sure, people do this very same thing all the time.

Yes.

Yes

Yes you can, but bear in mind dealers will low ball your trade no matter what it is. Get a good estimate what your truck is worth before you take it in. You might be better off to sell your truck first and take in the cash. Dealers like that.

All dealers take all brands on trade. They just may not give a lot in real money.

Although they can "show" you a high figure, its often bogus.

Dealers take trade ins to facilitate car sales. Their objective is to wholesale most trade ins for a small profit within a few days to a week. The cream of the crop they may keep and try to retail.

Nobody shops at Mazda dealers for Ford pickups.

Take the Ford to the Mazda house and trade-in for the vehicle of your choice… OK

  • Why do car companies sell in different countries under different names? Why are companies like Chevrolet selling their cars under names like Holden in Australia? I'm not sure if Chevrolet sells in Australia but I do think they do. If they already sell in Australia, what's the point of selling the same thing under Holden? Another example is some Ford cars are sold under Lincoln, and Chevrolet sells the same thing under GMC. Buick and Opel? What's with this?
  • Can i ask the ford dealer to trade my car in on full value? I bought a Ford Mustang GT in mid March brand new, but i bought it automatic. I now realize that this was a huge mistake, and i want to get the same car in manual. The MSRP on the manual is about 2000 less than the automatic. I have put about 3000 miles on the car. Do you think they will give me full value for the car?
  • When see Lexus.does this translate as I'm better than you.cause I'm so smarter than you? I mean "Chevy" to me says." I'm dumb and proud to be an American"? What about Ford? WHAT ABOUT JUST "TOYOTA"? (I'm SMARTER THAN ALL OF YOU!"? BUT HOW TRUE?)
  • Blew my tire, now it's facing a different direction than other ones? So, a couple of my tires have been leaking since I got the car. Its a 2008 Ford Focus. I ran over a pretty hefty curb. My tire blew. My boyfriend went to put the spare on, wasn't one in my trunk, So he grabbed his. After finally getting the car lifted, he was having a really hard time getting the nuts off. Then he realized the tire was turned. Not a lot. But my other front tire was facing straight. So what could this be? He thinks it's the steering rod.
