Can i remove power steering belt in 2001 ford F150 And still be able to drive? - 1
Yes but steering will be incredibly difficult.
Most modern cars have only 1 or 2 accessory belts.
If you remove a belt that connects ONLY the power steering pump then you would still be able to drive the truck, you just wouldn't have power steering so it would be very difficult to turn the steering wheel. I've driven cars that didn't have power steering or had pumps that were failing. Generally its not too bad trying to steer while you're moving but can be very difficult to turn the wheel when moving at very low speeds or when you're not moving at all.
But if that belt also drives another critical item such as the alternator or water pump you would not be able to drive the truck (for very long). Without the alternator your battery will die and leave you stranded and without the water pump the engine will overheat in a matter of a few minutes.
I believe that model has a serpentine belt that controls everything. If that is the case, your answer is no. If the belt is separate, you can remove it, but it will be a b*tch to steer.
Hi so the simple answer is the steering will be almost impossible to steer the truck.
Technically yes. However you will find steering is almost impossibly heavy plus the belt on most vehicles multi tasks. That is it reason alternator and eve water pump. So distance won't be far before getting issues. Unless we have a really said reason to do this? Best avoided a sit can create more issues than we want.
It would be impossible to remove the serpentine belt while disabling the power steering pump on your F-150 as if older models that had several V-type belts it would be fine to remove the belt that powers the power steering pump but be prepared for hard steering as you could be prepared to have the power steering pump or the steering box replaced after complaining to your favorite mechanic of hard steering.
You'll barely be able to steer and the steering wheel will have a good 3" of play in it. Not too safe but you should be able to make it home with out a tow truck.
Make sure the PS belt doesn't drive the water pump or you'll ruin the motor.
- 2001 Ford Taurus power steering fluid leak? My husband bought a new power steering pump and installed it last week, but when he added the power steering fluid it leaked out almost immediately. Any idea of what would cause this?
- Power steering noise on Ford Focus, still works? Suddenly, my power steering has got noisy. It makes a noise when idling and increases when I press the gas pedal and also when I turn the wheel. The power steering fluid level looks OK, a little bit below the minimum level but I can see it when I take the cap off. Is this just going to be a quick belt replacement or something far more expensive? Is it safe to keep driving? And also, can The AA or RAC fix this at the roadside or is it a garage job?
- My power steering belt is off? When I left for work yesterday I pulled out of the driveway and it was extremely hard to turn my steering wheel. I noticed this morning my power steering belt was hanging off. I grabbed it and it just all came off. I looked at the belt. It doesn't have any cracks or slits. I'm not sure if it can be worn out or if there could be another problem leading to it? I have a 2002 ford focus. I know nothing about cars.
- I have a 2004 Ford F150 and when the weather warms up the power steering stops working? When the weather is cold the power steering works fine but when the weather starts to warm up the power steering stops working the belt looks fine but if the pump was bad then why is power steering working just fine in the winter time
