Are late 90's/early 2000's dodge rams reliable trucks?

I'm planning on buying a used pick up truck from around a 96-2001. I like the dodge ram and dakota, but tons of people have told me that the are unreliable. Should I get a ford 150, chevy 1500 or dodge ram 1500? Please tell me if the dodge ram is reliable and or your experience with dodge ram pick ups.

OK. Compared to the other two American trucks, they are the least reliable. That said, they are more reliable than most other vehicles sold. Any vehicle that is approaching 20 years old is going to start to have some issues. But by the late 90's, Dodge was over some of the issues that plagued the early "Semi" look trucks. I would choose based on which truck you actually like the best. Fords have electrical problems (I know, I've owned several) as they age, While my 21 year old Chevy Van has never given me much trouble, I'm sure GM has its share of issues. So if you like Dodge, get Dodge, otherwise, you may spend years driving a truck you "kinda like". My brother is a big Dodge fan. He's on his 3rd Ram. He understands what problems the trucks have and doesn't care, he drives what he likes. And to be truthful, the last Ram, a 96 model, hasn't had too many problems that aren't attributed to age and use. The newest one hasn't had any problems at all. I would avoid the Dakota (He started with one of those), it does seem to have significantly more issues.

I'm planning on buying a Nissan Frontier next time out. I can make all kinds of arguments about why another truck is better, but I've determined I flat-out LIKE the Frontier better. Why drive something sensible if you don't like it?
