Why did they make the new gmc jimmys and blazers so small from 1998-2000?

Why are they small compared to other suvs? They're not as high are little compared to other suvs like the Ford Explorer and the trail blazer with a smaller engine why is this

Smaller = lighter and cheaper to make with a higher profit margin. Lighter means smaller engine = better fuel economy = lower emissions. The auto manufacturers were trying to comply with government decreed efficiency and pollution mandates. They were also trying to rope in more women and younger drivers to open up a wider market. And they were trying to gain back market share from Toyota and Nissan who were kicking their asses in sales, outselling the American big SUV's at a rate of 4 to 1.

General Motors has used the Blazer/Jimmy name on several different vehicles.

The ORIGINAL Chevy K5 Blazer was a shortened version of the full-size Chevy Suburban. It was built from 1969 to 1994, and then it was renamed the Tahoe in 1995. The Tahoe continues in production today.

The S-10 Blazer was based on the compact S-10 pickup truck chassis and was considerably smaller than the original K5 version. The First Generation S-10 Blazer was built from 1982 to 1994. The Second Generation S-10 Blazer was a bit larger and production ran from 1995 to 2005 in the USA.
