Which vehicle should I buy? - 1

I'm looking at buying either a 1999 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 5.0 with 140k miles for $800 or a 1997 Nissan Maxima 3.0 v6 with 98,000 miles for $800 which do you think would be a better vehicle and what would you choose?

Those are both horrible choices if you only have $800 to spend

Buy what you can afford to pay for and maintain.

The mid to late 90s Sentras and Maximas were very reliable. Test drive the Maxima for 10 miles, stopping and restarting every mile, the last 3 miles on the freeway at freeway speeds. If it can make the 10 mile trip, it can make the next 10000 miles.

If you only have $800 I would avoid anything like those cars. Look for a small 4-cylinder, preferably Japanese. The cars you mention <may> be reliable but will not be worth repairing if they go wrong. Even if they don't go **** up, they will still have running costs in proportion to their complexity and size. If you don't have much cash, then you will be perpetually broke just keeping them on the road. I would get something cheap to run, maintain and fix, and common enough for mechanics to understand, and for parts to be readily available used if necessary. I really hate to say this and apologise in advance for using the C-word but if you are broke.Corolla is your friend.

Nissan Maxima.
90s Ford Explorer is garbage and dangerous (rolls over easily, bad brakes).

SUV's usually have terrible mpg. Also, the Ford Explorer all around is a pretty awful car.

There are various types of car body type these are most which is people want to buy like hatchback, sedan, crossover, SUV, MUV, LGV, co… You buy a car own prospective reason if i want to buy a car, i want to choose "sedan" or "SUV".

Nissan just because I do not have time to FixOrRepairDaily. It will be FoundOnRoadDead.
