Where is coil wire on 1996 ford explorer?

There's one ignition coil module (combines the functions an ignition coil and a distributor cap in one module) on the V6 Explorer. From this there are six spark plug wires, and single electrical connector that goes to the ignition control module. There's no ignition coil wire, because is there's no separate stand-alone ignition coil like you would find on a car with an old school distributor.

To find the module simply follow any one of the spark plug wires to the module, they all end up there.

  • My 1996 Ford Explorer will not start. SOMETIMES? There's no telling when my explorer wants to start. Usually once a week it just will not start, it will crank and crank but just won't start. I don't understand it. Then sometimes 10 minutes later sometimes 4 hours later it will start right up. It is driving me nuts and i don't want to pay a shop to fix the problem if it's simple.
