What procedure should I take into putting a new radio into my ford explorer?
Most aftermarket radios will require a install or fitment kit. If you have a newer Explorer then it might not have a single or double DIN standard sized stock radio, often on new cars you need to get an aftermarket dash/center stack bezel, and if you have radio controls on the steering wheel you might need an adapter for that tool.
These are things that you should already know if you're attempting to install a new head unit in a newer car. It's not hard if you have the correct wiring harness(es) and you know what you're doing, however you might want to just pay an audio shop to do it.
- How to know if a vehicle is worth putting money into? I bought a 2005 Ford Ranger 4x4 5 speed and it is mechanically sound except for the timing chain rattle. The underside truck is rusty due to being in the North for 13 years of its life. I want to get rid of as much rust as possible to paint and protect the frame, but I don't know if this truck is worth putting money into. Any tips to decide if it is worth it? Or should I look into buying a new truck?
- 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 won't shift into drive after being driven. Takes longer than should to shift into drive when first started? It will go in reverse fine. First thing in the morning when I leave for work, it will shift into drive on it's own, but takes a bit longer than it should. After getting it warm, won't shift into drive at all. I can shift down to 1st or 2nd, then back into drive and it will "pop up" into drive within a second or 2. I also have a ODB2 error P1744 (Torque Converter circuit).
- Should I take my car into the auto shop? I don't know anything about cars but I have a 2012 Ford Focus and when I was driving recently I got an alert that the transmission was hot and I needed to stop driving. Also when ever I'm driving and put the heat on it smarts to smell like burning rubber.
- 2004 Ford Focus, stick shift. When I take it out of gear at a stop light, into neutral, the RPM goes up to nearly 3,000 RPM. Why? When first starting the car, just leaving it neutral, the RPM stays around 2,000. IT only raises when driving, as described above
