I have a 1996 Ford Explorer. It starts perfect as soon as I get in it. If I drive anywhere & I turn it off it won't restart until cool?

[1] You haven't asked a question as required by forum rules. You have made two statements. Fail.

[2] Reason - probably a failing fuel pump which is common with that vintage of Explorer. Starts cold but cranks and won't start when hot. Before replacing it you should test the fuel pressure regulator. If the pressure leaks down after shutting off a weak fuel pump may not be able to pressurize the system adequately. Both could require replacement

Typical ignition module problem on those old ignition systems. Engine heat causes an increase in resistance which results in a lower voltage to the coil. Once it cools down the resistance becomes normal and full voltage to the coil gives you enough spark again. I've seen them get so bad that the engine shuts off after a few minutes of running.

So a heat issue for a component. Check if fuel pump runs when ignition switched. On? If not look at that first as option. If it runs then ignition circuit possible. As it cranks but won't fire we have possible fuel/air issue and that can get involved so a diagnostic check is best way forward. More fuels are using higher levels of ethanol these days and that create gas bubbles in fuel lines when we have heat source such as hot engine. If fuel bypass circuit is faulty we can get those issues! A garage will sort but can take time so may get. Slightly costly unless as simple fault found with diagnostic checks.

  • Why my doge chrisler sibrin 99 drive for 15 minutes and then shots off but starts after a it gets cold? • Car starts but won't drive? Why? I have a 2003 Ford Taurus its at about 180,000 miles. Ran just fine until today. I was driving with no problems when I came to a stoplight. When the light turned green I pressed on the gas and the RPM meter flew past 4 and stayed there. I barely made it pass the intersection, my car would no longer accelerate. I image you have to press hard for the RPM to go that high. And I definitely wasn't pressing hard. Please I'm in need of advice & feedback!
  • My Ford Transit headlights turn on in off position and turn off in the on position? I'm a new driver, just passed my test. My van has some issue with the lights: namely, the lights turn off in the on position when the dash lights come on, and turn on when they are supposed to be off. This means that I'm driving at night without dash lights as I need to have the lights switched off in order for my headlights to be on. Might this be an electrical issue? Would anybody be able to give me advice and possibly know how much this costs to repair?
