My Ford Expedition won't accelerate past 2500 rpm?

I have a 2002 Ford Expedition 2wd 4.6L V8 180k miles. I noticed when I step on it past 2500 rpm the car will growl as if it wants to accelerate but it won't go any faster. It just makes the noise as if I was revving it and the rpm gauge will go all the way up but it won't go. If I don't step on it past 2500 rpm (which I almost never do) it runs perfectly fine. I just had the transmission rebuilt, but prior to that I wasn't driving the car for over a year. Could that have something to do with the transmission? If so I can take it and my warranty should cover that but I just wanted to know before I go in next week to the shop on my day off.

Yes, the transmission is slipping. Take it back.

Sounds like you have a problem with the transmission again. Should have a warranty on it. Take it back and have them look at it

Your transmission is slipping and you need a rebuilt tranny

Bad tranny. Time for a new or newer car. Not worth fixing.

Do an OBD2 code check to see what the problem really is. Ford might charge you $100 to pull codes. You can get a good code reader at Walmart for $50. I got mine online for about $20. If you can get to a car part store, they often pull codes free and write down any codes exactly. The definitions of the codes tell the malfunction. You can check the transmission dipstick to see if the fluid is low. 2500 rpm might be about 25-30 mph in 2nd gear. In 4th gear 2500 rpm might be 55-65. Perhaps the check engine light tells you to check the engine. It never tells you "check the internet".

  • Car won't accelerate, but rpms increase? I replace my alternator on Saturday and starting that same day my car has had problems accelerating. When I hit 10mph, the rpms shoot to 4000 and I have to ease off the gas pedal. Occasionally this is accompanied by a groaning noise. I made sure that the connections to the alternator were secure, but I'm not sure what the problem could be. The car is a 1997 Ford Taurus. I would really appreciate any advice.
  • My ford 500 limited series won't pick up speed when i try to accelerate. I was told it was my air intake system? A mechanic told me to replace the throttle body. I'm not too educated on cars but i know i would have to buy the throttle body, hose, and maybe gasket. Few questions, is the gasket important to replace as well? Besides those listed part is there something else i need to get?
  • What RPM should my car idle while driving and what RPM should I shift? I have a 2003 Ford Mustang V6. 5 speed manual transmission. This is not the first manual car I've owned, but I'm curious. I never really look but I've read in some places that in order to save gas you should shift at 2 RPM before I used to shift at around 3-3.5 RPM. Also what's a good RPM my car should idle at while I'm in gear? Let's say I'm driving in 3rd gear. What's the ideal RPM to stay at before needing to shift.
  • Why won't my 2006 Ford Fusion accelerate while the a/c is on? My car has 198,000 miles. We had to replace the engine a couple years ago, the replacement engine had 68,000 miles when we put it in. In the past 4 months it has become a nightmare to drive. It WILL NOT accelerate while the a/c is on. What can I do about this? It's driving me insane, Texas heat and a car that I can't drive with the air on sucks!
