My 2003 ford expedition won't start. I get one loud click
When i turn the key I can hear one loud click coming from the starter. I have a good battery. I also can feel the relay ingage when you turn the key.
Give the STARTER several taps with a hammer then try to start the car. If it starts you will know the brushes in the starter are bad and you should replace the starter as soon as possible.
Big Fords are famous for corroding the INSIDE of the battery cable clamps. Pull both of the clamps off & scrape both the inside of the clamp & the sides of the battery posts with a small pocketknife blade. If that helps, most all car parts stores carry a small wire brush designed just to clean those areas. Also, around that time, Ford tried some sheet metal battery cable clamps instead of the heavy 'lead' clamps - They don't work. If you have the smaller sheet metal clamps, you'll have to have them replaced with the good ole fashioned lead ones, as they will both eventually corrode. My '02 Grand Marquis wouldn't start, & the positive sheet metal battery cable clamp tore in half when I gave the wire a small tug.
Give the starter relay a tap with a small hammer whilst someone else turns the key. If it works, you need a new starter relay.
- Car won't start, power works and makes a single click noise? I have a 93 ford Taurus. When I try to start my car, it was just making a single click noise and then would eventually start after I tried a couple more times. The other day it wouldn't start, still made the single click noise, I tried a couple more times and now it doesn't make the noise at all. The power works, my headlights don't dim or anything like that. I've had my car jumped and that still didn't work so I'm curious as to what it could be?
- Hunting: They totaled my 2010 Ford Expedition. Should I get a new expedition or an Escalade? The insurance told the collision center that it is not worth it. I really like my rental 2019 Escalade that I have been using. Should I buy a new Escalade or a new expedition? We have enough for a 2019. Not getting used. We will get about $10,000 for the expedition. I'm just glad nobody was hurt.
- 2006 Ford Expedition - sudden loud pop/bang no power. Then intermittent power at 3000rpms not shifting? Heard a loud pop/bang and suddenly no power when driving… Turned the car off and was 'going' but shifting horribly and intermittently. No check engine lights on dash. Turned off overdrive and power was better but only beyond 3000rpms… Any thoughts?
- 1999 Ford expedition won't start? My 99 ford expedition will not start. I know I'm in need of a tune up but I think this is something else. When I try o crank my car it makes a little noise and does not turn over. I think this might be the starter. So what you guys think.
