Why does my engine rev up while shifting my 5 speed 99 Ford Escort SE Sport?

So, while driving, after some time, my car will rev on its own. Even without being in neutral it gives the engine fuel, but when I shift I can hear it clearly rev up. It isn't my throttle cable as I have debugged that. Also, whenever I'm driving, if I turn my keys to turn the car off and on, it stops having the rev problem for a little while. I'm not sure if this means that it is a sensor is the problem or not. Any info will help.

Check Throttle Position Sensor

  • Why does my car rev high all the time and drive without me touching the gas? It revs at stop lights and when sitting idle at drive throughs, and when I'm driving highway speed. It'll rev up to almost 3000 rpms especially in idle. It is a ford Taurus 2005 with 99,700 mi on it.
  • Can I make my five speed to a six speed? I have a 91 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 five speed. I know it's not an idea vehicle to fix but I enjoy the vehicle much. I would to fix it up, I know to give it a better performance that I have to make a lot of things custom. One thing I'd like to do is change it to a six speed, would it be wise to do so and is it possible? I'm hoping for a little bit gas mileage doing this and maybe faster acceleration?
  • Should I trade my 1995 ford mustang v6 5 speed for a 3000gt v6 five speed? Mustang runs and drives, 3000gt runs and drives but need ball joint and a arm. Should I trade if he throws money in for trade?
  • 2014 Ford Mustang v6 top speed with driveshaft replaced and rev limiter removed? Can anyone tell me the top speed a 2014 mustang v6 305 hp will run as a top speed with the limiter removed and the driveshaft replaced. I aware that the rev limiter stops the car at 115mph and its due to the driveshaft snapping at 135mph. I have ordered a new aluminum drive shaft and am awaiting its arrival but I have been wondering what the top speed of the car is with that being replaced. Also my rev limiter has already been removed.
