It's a nothin burger? No pickles, cheese, or even lettuce?
If those had an MTX, low failure rate.
But it's possible you have an ATX, so, now, identify it. 4 eat trans can also be in that year
Can you double clutch it? Since you say "reverse gear" instead of reverse range
Fill the auto trans to the correct fluid level?

self test the 4 eat TCM?
See how this could develop for a technician?
He needs to look at it, i.d. It, etc.
Will it start in reverse with the clutch pedal pressed?
is it cable operated? What is the condition of pedal height?

You need identfication of parts in use and system prechecks.

If its full? Drive straight to the trans shop for advice.
They will ask the same questions and offer the same advice.
But be able to look up the year and part type about

- Ford KA reverse gear problem? This only happens in reverse, but when I try to select reverse it won't always let me select the gear.
