2000 ford escort zx2 possible bad clutch/trans?
I was driving and downshifted to gain some speed and not much happened. After giving a certain amount of gas the rpms would go up like it's in neutral. While trying to find a place to park it, it would catch whatever gear I was in and go a little bit but barely. Too much gas and rpms go through the roof but no grinding or anything. Clutch is loose but it always was. Just wanna know what I'm dealing with so I can fix it. From a dead stop, putting it in gear and giving gas will make it move but barely and rpms go to about 2500 before it starts to move. Pretty sure it's a clutch issue but I wanna know what part would cause this so I can replace it and also a reference to a good raplacenment guide would be greatly appreciated
Clutch disk is done. All clutch parts (internal in the bell housing) are replaced when rebuilding the clutch. Flywheel also needs inspection and replaced or turned if required.

That's not a "possible bad clutch"… That IS a bad clutch!
Engine increasing in revs without car going faster IS a bad clutch, not "possible bad clutch/trans". The friction plates are shot. Just get the clutch replaced. Simple job.
Clutches wear out. Doing this " downshifted to gain some speed " just makes it happen faster.
Ya, sounds like the clutch is worn out. Might need to check the clutch cylinder, slave cylinder to make sure there's fluid in it. Uses Dot II or III brake fluid. Maybe you have a steel cable that goes from the clutch pedal to the clutch?
- Have 98 Ford Ranger, 4.0, 171,000 miles, auto trans with limited slip. I've owned truck since new and have changed trans fluid every 30-35 000 miles and have never towed anything. The majority of the 171,000 miles are interstate driving. The truck shifts fine with no jerking or slippage. What I do get is thump(s) in rear end when I come to a stop, as gears are downshifting. Do I need a new transmission? Any suggestions? I suppose it's a "clunk" I hear and feel when I come to a stop, not a thump.

It should get great millage but for some reason it feels like I'm not getting the power it should when it's in drive it idles rough and the rpm meter keeps jumping but when it's in neutral and park it's fine it also does it in reverse I jus got it an oil change and all new plugs and wires and new cool pak what else could it be?

- Can a Ford Escort ZX2 haul anything? It has an overdrive option, and would just like to know if it has the capability to haul anything. I'm NOT trying to haul anything big, just a something small a few miles down the road and do not have access to a truck and it is just a little bit too big to fit inside the car. I don't know anything about cars and I do know it has an overdrive option and have never used it, and would just like to know if that is a reason to use it.
