Why is it that my ford escape turns to the right?

Whenever I turn my steering wheel to the left my suv still moves forward to the right side.

Most vehicles are made that way. I was told it's in case you pass out or fall asleep, you will turn towards the ditch instead of towards oncoming traffic.

That indicates a seriously dangerous fault with the steering system. One or more linkages are bent, broken or detached.

The car can't be safely or legally driven anywhere until repaired, so unless you can get a mechanic to come to the vehicle and repair it, then it will need recovering by a flat-bed or a tow truck to a repair shop.

The last time I had a car do that (but to the left) it was the belt in the left front tire that slipped to one side. I could take my hands off the wheel and the car would follow a curve in the freeway. The slant in the tread was obvious from ten feet away. Most tire shops will do a visual and "run hands over the tread, feeling for lumps and other bad things" inspection for no charge.

Maybe it's dyslexic.

You have a broken tie rod end.
I guess it can also be a broken ball joint. Is a tire leaning?

We can't tell you without inspecting the vehicle. Have it towed to a shop and repaired.

Look at the front wheels. They're pointed cok-eyed. Have the alignment fixed.

Alignment

You know that well

I guess it doesn't want to be straight.

  • Why does my 2000 Ford Explorer shake badly when taking a sharp right while lightly braking? Just had the front ball joints replaced (upper and lower). I took it for a test drive on a route with lots of turns. When taking the almost 90 degree turns at ~35mpg and lightly breaking (only when turning right), I felt like I had run onto a road with a bad washboard and some loose rocks. I've taken these same turns before the repair was done and no issues.
  • Car veers to the right while turning right-what could be the problem? Whenever I turn right--especially at high speeds, the car will veer to the right even further without turning the wheel. It's consistently in the same exact spot. The car's a 1998 Ford Escort. What could be the problem--is it definitely the rack and pinion? If so, does the entire thing need to be replaced?

I'm just looking for opinions on what it might be, or is most likely to be.
