What does the check feul cap light mean on a 2003 Ford escape and is it safe to drive while the light is on?

So this morning while I was driving my truck I noticed the check feul cap light was on. Not exactly for sure when it came on. Just wondering if it's something minor or something I should correct right away?

You should check the fuel cap and make sure it is on tight. In rare cases you may need to replace a defect fuel cap that does not seal properly. They sell replacements at the auto parts store for about 10 dollars.

It means that there's a vacuum leak, either caused by the cap leaking, or not being put back on tight, or an actual vacuum leak in the line somewhere.

Just take the cap off and put it back on, or buy a new cap.

It throws a code because it's an emissions check.

You should read the owners manual and stop asking these types of questions.Every bell and whistle is in the book. It doesn't make you look real smart.

It means exactly what it says, check your fuel cap (the cap over the hole where you stick the gas nozzle when you are putting gas into your vehicle). Make sure it's tight and you still get the warning, you need to buy a replacement fuel cap.

Not critical, but FIX IT SOON, and learn how to spell FUEL so you don't look like an idiot. It's bad enough that you can't seem to read the owners manual. If you don't have one it can be found online for free.
