What car is good for potholes?

I know this is an odd question but I need a car better suited for potholes. I currently drive a base model 2017 Ford Escape with steel wheels. I don't particularly love the car but I refuse to get better rims because my city has god awful roads. My issue is I love to drive an explore states and my old car a 2010 Ford Focus i busted 3 tires and a strut on potholes. Among other things that's a reason I got the Escape. The Escape does good as I've unintentially hit some big holes but it's basacly a tall car. But I'm thinking a serious off roader like a Jeep Wrangler would handle rough roads better since it's made for off road. What do you think?

No car

Ie. No pothole is good for a car.
Peace.

No car is good for potholes.

But a vehicle that has tires with a tall sidewall ( and not runflat ) at least can absorb a lot of the shock of a pothole before the rim and the rest of the suspension has to bear the brunt of the shock.

One of the current trends in automobiles is for large rims with smaller, low-profile tires. An unfortunate side effect of that trend is a lot of vehicles travelling on roads with potholes is an increase in damage to the tires, rims, and even some steering and/or suspension damage in extreme cases.

Get a truck.

Off-road vehicles are designed to handle rough roads at very low speed, so there wouldn't be much, if any improvement at normal speeds on city streets and highways. In fact, the one's I have owned had stiffer suspension, making driving on rough pavement a harsher experience, especially when lightly loaded, so if you're not going to go off-roading, it may be the wrong solution to you. It wouldn't hurt to test-drive a few on some rough streets but I would first look at suspension upgrades for your vehicle. There are a lot of options including heavy duty shocks, struts and springs, air-bag suspension, lift kits, steering stabilizers, larger wheels, larger tires with higher load ratings, etc.

Go faster & fly over them as it seems that way. Unless the pothole is so big it will swallow the car whole. Then that is like the "streets of San Francisco" .downhill on one side and uphill on the other.

Old classic VW Beetle with trailing arm front suspension. 15 inch wheels with moderate profile instead of 50 to 70 aspect ratio small diameter wheels and tires like some of 13 inch wheeled EU or Japanese now. Citroen 2CV another taller wheeled model designed at time of rough roads. Otherwise you'll have to go the SUV/truck route as you're doing now. Mercedes 190D was known for better than most ability to get around on bad roads, Checker designed for cab use and Ford Crown Vics with commercial tires, suspension for police work, cab work was better than small car. Jeep CJ models were designed for off road- could call them Cars or light commercial vehicles- what federal law for tarrifs has them classed as.

A jeep wrangler?

The larger the tires and the higher profile the tires, the better for potholes!

  • I'm in high school and about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car So far I have looked into ford mustangs, I have a choice between a 2007 ford mustang gt with a 8 cylinder motor with automatic transmission, or I can get a 2013 mustang v6. My question is which of the two cars is a faster and louder car cause I would like to show it off and have heads turn by its engine as I drive off on the street.
