Check the serpentine belt.
Bad drive belts or drive belt pulleys.
You must know absolutely nothing about cars because this is one of the most common and easily diagnosed problems. It is a worn and slipping accessory belt. On the Escape it is a single belt called a Serpentine Belt. Watch and learn.
Your fan belt.
Loose or worn serpentine belt. Inspect it for damage. Tighten it or replace as necessary.
Drive or serpentine belt which is either worn or our of alignment.
Replace the serpentine belt and tensioner.
The fan belt (it is also called a V belt that connects to the alternator. It is TOO LOOSE. Loosen the bolt on the alternator that is connected to the slotted hole. Then get a piece of wood between the motor block and the alternator and pull on it so that the belt is tighter… And while you are pulling, with the other hand tighten the bolt. That ALWAYS DOES IT. Easy fix. Cost you maybe half a beer. Go and sit down and drink the rest.
You MAY not have a V belt. It may be a serpentine belt which flexes backwards and forwards and is more flatter. But the problem is the same and fixed the same way.
The tensioner is a spring loaded wheel that is more of a guide than a belt tensioner and they sometimes screech. They do not keep the belt tight enough… If it is too loose. More of a guide for a long stretch. They can be left alone in many cases. They are part of the "SWAMP" IMO
My guess is a loose belt. Try to pull the belts or pulleys without the engine running and if you can, the belt is loose. It will tighten after heating up, but will wear out even more. Replace it before disaster.
There's a belt needing some attention. The sound is the pulley slipping inside the belt. You hear it under load because that's when the motor is making maximum torque.
- I took my truck my truck to ford to fix a very loud noise and when I Get it back same its the same? I spent eight hundred and something dollars to get this fixed they said I should replace two of them the front and back so they can have the same life span so I forked out another 400 bucks but now when I go home and has the same noise when I turn now they're trying to sell me a wheel bearing for two hundred buckS, its been 5 days what should I do
- I have a ford forte when I turn my air con on it makes a noise then my car stalls? Ever since it did that even with the air con off it makes like a funny hissing/airflow noise it's hard to explain. I'm worried because I'm ment to be going on a long drive tomorrow
- Have a 1982 200 Ford inline 6, It idles perfect And quiet, when you accelerate it gets a good amount of power for about a second then? Starts losing power, if you floor it, it will die. Starts losing most power at half throttle after that it starts to hesitate. Has a new carburetor, timing is good, advancer working, new spark plugs, fuel pump, filter, pcv valve, vaccum lines good, Ah I forgot to mention it runs better with the choke about 3/4 closed, no diaphragm for pump. It has original electronic ignition.
- Screeching noise from front left wheel on a 2013 Ford Focus SE - what is it? Cars got 30k miles on it. Its still has 6k miles until factory comprehensive coverage ends so I'm not persay worried, but I would like to fix this problem myself if its a simple fix and not expensive rather than take it to the dealership. I ain't got much experience with cars so I want to expand my skillset. Here is a youtube video for the noise. Sorry for the wind, its very windy today in Colorado.
