Depends on what year it is. My ex worked for Eaton Corporation who made the valves for the Ford Escape the first years it came out in the early to mid-2000's. It turned out all of the valves they put in all Ford Escapes for the first couple model years were defective. They were extremely weak and prone to snapping off. I certainly wouldn't buy one from that time period. Usually plant employees were really good about buying cars with Eaton parts in it, but literally no one there bought a Ford Escape. No one.
That was my first car at 17:)

Let's put it this way, it doesn't make the Top 50 Consumer Reports list for recommended vehicles for teens, based on driveability, reliability, safety features, maintenance and insurance. If it can't even make the top 50 that's a pretty clear NO.

Being a teenager who works on cars myself I personal believe this is not a good thing. Fords have a tendency to breakdown constantly. If you don't want them stuck on the side of the road often don't get a ford.
