Inherited a car from a dead relative should I sell it or keep it?

So I'm not really sure what to do with this but my grandfather had a 2014 Ford Escape base model. He loved buying a new car almost every other year until he got sick so his current car only has about 10 thousand miles. I already have a 2015 Honda Civic which isn't paid off yet but due to his death his car is. I was thinking I could sell it to help with my own debt but I feel guilty selling his car that he left to me. What should I do?

Why hide your identity?

Sell it. It's what he would have wanted.

It's yours to do whatever you want to do with it. But see if a family member would like to buy it - you avoid sales taxes on close family member sales. Get the car titled into your name to make the sale much, much easier.

" which isn't paid off yet but due to his death his car is."

DON'T COUNT ON IT! Just because a person dies, that does NOT mean that all his debts are automatically discharged. Unless the car was owned free and clear BEFORE the man passed, the debt is still owed, and YOU would be responsible for paying it.

Sell it. The Honda is a MUCH better car.

Have you gone through the process of transferring your grandfather's vehicle title into your name? If so, you can do whatever the hell you wish to do with the vehicle. If you haven't, you do not have the authority to do anything with the vehicle.

Flip a coin

Honda is far better.

Sell it

Sell it and pay off your car, unless you have some emotional attachment to it that I don't see. I bet he would want you to do what is best for you. I bet you miss him a lot.

  • Should I sell my car and get a cheaper one? I currently own a 2014 Ford Mustang valued at roughly $9670 with 47,000 miles on the odometer. I recently accepted a job that will require I commute 2 hours a day or 18,400 miles per year. I'm currently looking to buy a used car for $1500 or less so that I can save up for a better car in a year or two. Should I sell my mustang?
  • Should I get a new car or keep paying off my current one? I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with about 58,000 miles on it. I commute to work everyday, and my job requires me to travel, so I've really put the miles on. The original loan amount was $25k, and I have about $14k left on it. I was considering buying a different car and trading in my Fusion. Would that be a stupid idea? Should I just pay the car off?
  • How should i sell this car for/what would you pay? Red 2008 Ford fusion V6-cylinder (or whatever) needs a fuel pump & it has a dent in the drivers car door, it also needs a fuel pump. my friend is trying to sell her old car since she now has a new one and we're trying to figure out a good price to sell it for that would be fair.
  • Should I sell the car or trade it in? I have a 2001 Ford Focus SE wagon. It has about 178,000 miles on it. Yesterday, I went to two dealerships. One told me I wasn't going to get much for it but would not give me an estimate. The other one I went to told me that it was in good shape but because of the year and mileage that it still would not be worth much. We were thinking about setting our own price and selling it ourselves. What would be the better deal - selling it ourselves or trading it in?
