I have a 2015 Ford Escape 4WD with 4 new Fuzion tires. Less than 3,000 miles. When cold, after setting overnight, the front or back tire on?
The passenger side makes a thumping noise as the tire rotates on the roadway at low speeds for about 100-200 yds, then smooths out and the noise goes away. Can't tell if it's the front or rear. They're properly inflated and have good even treadwear.
Any ideas what's causing the noise?
This is normal in the winter. Overnight the weight of the car pressing down causes the part of the tire in contact with the ground to flatten out. Once the car gets moving - it rounds back out. You usually feel this on all four tires. If its just one or two - then they might a tiny bit underinflated from the others or simply just have more weight on them.
Tires get flat spots from sitting sometimes. It is normal
I had a set of Coopers that did that. They get a flat spot only on the bottom though. Has something to do with when you said "Hey I don't want to pay a lot for these tires."
It sounds as though your sub-par quality Fuzion brand tires have flat spots or have gone out of round.
Replace them with better quality tires.
There might be water in the tire and it freezes.
- Have 98 Ford Ranger, 4.0, 171,000 miles, auto trans with limited slip. I've owned truck since new and have changed trans fluid every 30-35 000 miles and have never towed anything. The majority of the 171,000 miles are interstate driving. The truck shifts fine with no jerking or slippage. What I do get is thump(s) in rear end when I come to a stop, as gears are downshifting. Do I need a new transmission? Any suggestions? I suppose it's a "clunk" I hear and feel when I come to a stop, not a thump.
- Ford Ranger 4.0, 172,000 miles rough idle when starting after sitting overnight or after 2-3 hours. Starts 1st crank, idles rough 1 minute? Or so and then smooths out and runs fine. New heads and gaskets. Cleaned MAF sensor, throttle body and air intake sensor, new IAC valve, new air and fuel filters, new PCV valve. No smoke coming from exhaust and No check engine light. Any ideas what's causing this rough idle?
- After driving Ford Ranger, high mileage, 10 miles and at normal operating temp, I park overnight on level concrete floor. I check oil level? Next day before starting and when I pull dipstick out, oil level is at full mark. I wipe the dipstick clean and re-insert and check oil level again, the oil level is down about 1/8th inch or so. I check it once more and get same reading. Is the crankcase full or do I need to add some oil? Just to be clear, since this is an older Ranger with over 170,000 miles, I use high mileage oil and I check the oil level regularly. It doesn't use oil after just 10 miles of driving.
- I own a 2015 Ford Escape with 30,000 miles and runs good. My prior vehicle had over 150,000 miles and I used Gumout Regane high mileage fuel? System cleaner. I still have a bottle of the Gumout and wondering if I used it in the Escape, would the Gumout do any harm to it? I suppose I could wait until I get 75,000 miles on it before using but I'm a 3000-4000 miles a year driver and the Gumout would go bad before using it.
