I have a 2015 Ford Escape, 32,000 miles, 1.6 liter, and the service engine soon light is on. Has new air filter and oil and filter changes?
Were done in Jan 2019. I've only put 1,000 miles on the car since then. The car starts and runs fine. The light came on a few months ago but after 3-4 driving cycles, the light turned off, now its back on again and I haven't done the 3-4 cycles again yet to see if the light goes out. The crankcase is full of oil.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Added (1). For 'champer', Prior to the oil being changed, the "change engine oil" light was on. After the oil change, the "change engine oil" light was off and has remained off. So I'm assuming the shop that did the oil change turned this light off. The light that is currently on is "service engine soon" light. It's a symbol on the dash that is illuminated.
Added (2). This isn't a check engine light. It's an illuminated symbol on the dash. I had to look in my owners manual to see what it meant.
Added (3). Had the car scanned for codes, has code P26B7… Coolant bypass valve. Car is not 5 years old and has 32,000 miles. Should manufacturers warranty cover this?
If it's the "service engine soon" light there's nothing wrong with the car, it just thinks it has reached the mileage where a service is required. Was this reset when the oil and filter change was done?
You can't do much without finding out first WHY the light is on, get the codes read.
There's no guessing this answer. Only an OBDii code scanner will tell you. Car part stores will scan for free and you need to see the definition and recommendations the trouble codes indicate.
Quit messing around and go to an Auto Parts store and get the codes read!
The light doesn't need to be on to read the codes that were set in the PCM.
Go the the parts store for a scan
- I have a 97 Ford Ranger, 4.0, in good shape, 102,000 miles and it doesn't start as well as I think it should. It cranks strong, and has new? Motorcraft plugs and fuel filter. I've cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body and the truck runs fine and there's no misfire. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I think the truck should start when I turn the key instead of having to crank 2-3 times. I've also installed a new IAC valve. Any suggestions on how to get the truck to start better?
- Have 98 Ford Ranger, 4.0, 171,000 miles, auto trans with limited slip. I've owned truck since new and have changed trans fluid every 30-35 000 miles and have never towed anything. The majority of the 171,000 miles are interstate driving. The truck shifts fine with no jerking or slippage. What I do get is thump(s) in rear end when I come to a stop, as gears are downshifting. Do I need a new transmission? Any suggestions? I suppose it's a "clunk" I hear and feel when I come to a stop, not a thump.
- Difference between SERVICE ENGINE SOON and CHECK ENGINE light? Is there any difference? I have a Ford Mustang 2002 and my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light is on. Does it mean something is wrong with my car? Do Mustangs also have a CHECK ENGINE light?
- I have a 1997 ford windstar and it over heated and now has milky sludge in the air filter drum? Car over heated no coolant filled coolant. It drank two full bottles running very rough miss firing and now there's a milky sludge blowing back through the air intake…
